Dynamic and Surface EMGs
Dynamic and Surface EMGs
Electromyography (EMG) is used to measure muscle activity by detecting and amplifying the small electrical impulses that are generated when muscle fibers contract. By analyzing these measurements, doctors can assess where problems lie and can accurately diagnose and treat specific ailments.
Dr. Fox uses a program called MyoVision, an electrophysiological computer-based device for measuring muscle activity, skin temperature, and skin resistance. MyoVision can measure muscles while they are still (Surface EMG) or while the patient is moving (Dynamic EMG). Both of these measurements help inform the doctor of specific problems in overall muscle functioning.
